Women Whom We Lost!

One whom we lost in India and one whom we lost in Iran. Both were women and daughters of mother Earth. What was their fault? One lost her life to her dreams and vision, whereas other lost her life to her choices. Paradoxically, both had neither fulfilled their dreams nor freely exercised their choices. Their cries and scars have sent a signal to the doomed humanity and marred planet but we have probably shut our ears.

This is the story of almost every woman on planet Earth whose right to life and freedom of expression is mercilessly taken away from her in the name of toxic patriarchy.

Men for long have been dictating women when it comes to choices and women give into their antics. It’s a gender divide. Do we understand what man has become in the process of asserting his supremacy? Why is it that everyday when we pick our newspapers we see more than one news report on crimes against women and girls? Why only women? What’s their fault?

Media sensationalizes crimes that happens against women. Ofcourse, for a reason of leading the game of TRPs. However, has it improved anything for women? No media coverage on rape or sexual harrasment has reduced the cases. So, what change does media project? Or is it just a propaganda for self-vested interests of capitalists having media channels.

In the UK, victims of rape or serious sexual assault have unequivocal anonymity and protection from media intrusion under section 1 of the Sexual Offences (Amendment) Act 1992. This is a statutory exception under Art 10(2) which allows for derogations on the basis of protecting the rights and freedoms of others.

Though Indian law also protects the right to privacy for women, I was shocked to see how a death of a young girl was sensationalised. Names and profession of her relatives, whereabouts of her family members and her private details were shared openly not only in the Indian newspapers but only on Indian news channels. Media for sure lacks soul and humanity. It’s all hyperreality where boundaries between real and unreal have got blurred. We never get to know what’s the truth and this vicious cycle continues. Our women never get justice but are sacrificed to the self-vested interests of the malicious power greedy sections of the society.

To the daughters of our mother Earth —

You are the change, you are the world. From you is the life and from you are the men.
